United Network for Collegiate Pantry Sharing (UNCPS) provides emergency short-term food relief for enrolled students experiencing food insecurities at participating colleges and universities.
Food insecurity has increasingly become an issue on college and university campuses, and can pose a significant barrier to student success. We understand that education is the key to getting out of poverty and/or improving students’ prospects after graduation. Thus, Association of American Colleges and Universities (Hunger on Campus Report) reports that 48 percent of college students face food insecurity in the previous month and within the past year, 64 percent of food insecure students were prone to housing insecurity. Consequently, there are more than 1 million restaurants in the U.S., that are home to more than 15 million employees nationwide who are especially vulnerable to the effects of Covid-19 closures and reduced business. During these unprecedented times when many restaurant establishments are forced to either reduce their services or close their doors for the greater good of our community, United Network for Collegiate Pantry Sharing (UNCPS) wants to provide an innovative solution.
Our process is simple:
1. We work with established University / College Food Pantries via their Student Services hub to support their students;
2. We encourage EAT LOCAL - We locate individual meal sponsorship (daily, weekly, and monthly) within our network to purchase meals for restaurant pick-up and delivery orders in the community where the student is currently residing;
3. As our EAT LOCAL restaurants continue to serve local communities impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, we assist them with supporting their businesses, while reinvesting in their long-term futures.
